Meet the Real Gertie
On TikTok, Gertie appears as Oh my Gert, where her profile describes her perfectly: “Tiny body. Big Attitude.” Her videos capture the little things that make a pet memorable—stretching out on blankets, wandering around the house, asking for attention, and making her own unmistakable noises.
Those everyday moments helped shape the direction of the rug. Rather than forcing one exact pose into the design, the portrait was allowed to feel a little exaggerated and a little silly—much closer to Gertie’s online personality.
Designing a More Playful Version of Gertie
The portrait is intentionally more stylized than photorealistic. Gertie’s black-and-white coloring creates the strongest visual connection to the real pig, while the expression was pushed further with closed eyes, a large pink snout, a tiny tongue, and a piece of grass still hanging from her mouth.
Her body was also simplified into a fuller, rounded silhouette. A dark outline and light outer border help separate the shape from the floor and keep the irregular edges readable once the illustration becomes a physical rug.
The result is not meant to be a perfect photographic duplicate. It is a character-driven interpretation: relaxed, funny, and just a little dramatic.
Why 3 × 3 ft Worked for This Pig-Shaped Rug
Gertie’s finished rug measures 3 × 3 ft. That size gives the portrait enough space for details like the snout, eyes, tongue, grass, and irregular body outline to stay easy to recognize at floor level.

After the final artwork was approved, the rug was made to order in California and prepared to ship within 72 hours of final design approval.

In one reveal video, her owner laughs that Gertie is “making her happy noises.” In another moment, her owner talks to her about a photograph taken when Gertie was younger.
Seeing them side by side also makes the design choice easier to understand. The real Gertie is slimmer and naturally much more detailed. The rug deliberately turns those familiar visual cues into a rounder and more playful character.
It is recognizably Gertie without trying to pretend that an illustration has to look exactly like a photograph.
