Chaktah is running straight toward the camera, mouth open, pink bandana bouncing at his neck. It is the kind of photo that tells you what he was like before anyone has to explain.
We first noticed Chaktah in a video. He was 15 and still so full of spirit that we reached out about making a custom rug featuring him. When his family replied, they told us he had passed away a few weeks earlier. They still wanted to make something for him, now as a custom pet memorial rug they could keep at home.
We asked for a few favorite photos and offered to send a free design preview before anything went into production.
The photo we kept coming back to
Chaktah’s family had more than one favorite. One photo shows him standing on a rock against an evening sky. In another, he faces the camera wearing a little blue bow tie. The running photo catches him mid-stride, looking unmistakably pleased with himself.
The family said they could not choose among their top picks and invited us to select the image that would work best. We chose the running photo. Around Chaktah, we added a meadow of small flowers and a light sky, then gave the artwork a soft, irregular outer shape that follows the scene.
At the bottom, the artwork reads “always running back to us♥”. Those words sit beneath a photo of Chaktah doing exactly that.
From a photo to a memorial they could hold
Before production, we used the photos Chaktah’s family shared to create a design preview, then sent it to his person to make the final choice. That step matters especially for a memorial. When the family saw the design, their response was emotional. The person we spoke with said the finished rug would be a pleasant surprise for them and their family. We shared tracking on August 31, which they later told us was Chaktah’s birthday. In a message on September 5, they said the rug had arrived the previous night.
A place in the family home
Chaktah’s person called the rug “absolutely lovely” and said their parents loved it too. Their dad holds up the finished piece in one video; another shows it hanging on a wall at home, above a shelf with framed photos.
